This message has been sent out by James MacIver, Principal Clerk of the Free Church of Scotland, calling the church to special prayer this Sunday. Other friends of David and the Free Church might like to stand with us in prayer solidarity: "In the light of the most recent posts regarding the serious and worsening physical condition of Rev. David Robertson, a request has been made that the whole church pray earnestly to God on David's behalf at the same time on this coming Lord's Day at 10.30am or 12 noon (this would embrace churches that start at 10.30am, 11am and at 12 noon). Along with him being a family man, our brother in Christ and a loyal servant of the Free Church, we also appreciate the intense role he has been fulfilling as an effective defender of the Christian faith in our secular society. Please pray for David, for his healing, his family and his church. Pray that God will be glorified in and through this dark experience that we are facing as a church."
A single request from David Robertson of St Peter's Free Church, Dundee
I'm writing today with a heavy heart and with a single request that has come from David Robertson's own steadily scribbling hand. I visited David in the ICU again this morning to share some emails from others and some of the many get-well cards we are being inundated with here at St Peter's Dundee. He was awake and reasonably alert after a very hard day yesterday and with only a few hours of sleep last night.
Yesterday he was anaesthetised for several hours as the doctors and nurses replaced all of his vital support lines. He has developed a sceptic infection and has had a high fever for the last several days that has been unresponsive to antibiotics and fever reducing measures. Additionally, a CT scan of his lungs yesterday revealed that the damage has been more extensive and intense then they first believed.
The doctors have said the next 48 hours are going to be crucial to his outcome.
David has asked me to ask you to pray for him, en concert, wherever you are, today between 4pm and 5pm GMT. He has asked that you would also fast during this hour as you pray. "This kind of thing can be beaten with prayer and fasting," he wrote furiously.
Would you please join us, wherever you are, during this hour to pray and fast for David. •Pray with us that that Lord would spare his life. That the infection would be eradicated and that his lungs would be restored. •Pray that his mind and his soul would rest at this time. That he would rest in God's love and His pleasure with David's life and work. •Pray for David's wife Annabel, Daughters Becky and Emma-Jane and son Andrew, as well as the rest of his extended family as they carry this heavy burden. Pray for their spiritual and emotional health and for Annabel's physical health as she has developed a chest infection.
Soli Deo gloria, Brian
