Who is it run by?
Coordinated by the University Chaplaincy, this is an opportunity for people in the churches of St Andrews to befriend international students. We in the Free Church are keen to support this valuable work by encouraging our congregation to get involved.
Which students need befriending?
Open to overseas students of any faith or none, it is particularly aimed at those whose first language is not English. Chinese postgraduate students are often most keen to meet local people.
What does it involve?
Befrienders meet with their students at least twice a term, maybe for coffee, an outing or a meal. Students are usually placed in pairs and are introduced to their befrienders pesonally by the coordinator.
Who can take part?
Anyone who feels they could be a friend to overseas students: for instance, local members of the congregation and visiting postgraduate families can all be involved.
What should I do?
Contact chaplaincy@st-andrews.ac.uk, for the attention of Fiona, mentioning that you are from the Free Church. It would be helpful to hear from you by 15 September 2010.
