NEW TESTAMENT GREEK FOR BEGINNERS

An opportunity for beginners to learn New Testament Greek (part of the University's Open Association programme):

Thursdays, 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm: Meeting Room, Old Burgh School, Abbey Walk

Semester 1: 8 week course beginning on Thursday 7 October 2010
Semester 2: 8 week course beginning on Thursday 10 February 2011
(please note that semester 2 participants should have completed the semester 1 course or be at an equivalent level)
Course fees for one semester: £50, concessions £40

This interactive course is intended primarily for students who wish to begin studying the Greek New Testament or who have been interested in learning the fundamentals of the Greek language but unsure of where to start. The language of the New Testament is a simplified form of that used in 5th-century Athens and no formal knowledge of ancient (Attic) Greek is required. We will start with the basics of language and syntax and build up from there. Vocabulary will be limited to words which are common in the New Testament. We will use the first letter of John and the gospel of John as our primary texts. All study materials will be provided and students are expected to have time to study at home.
Please note this is not a course in theology.

ANNOUNCEMENTS, SUNDAY 19 SEPTEMBER

MORNING
Sermon - Exodus 16:4a (and other texts) - "Heaven's Kitchen"

EVENING
There will be no evening service this evening. We were officially informed last weekend that our normal venue, Hope Park Parish Church, would be hosting an important Presbytery event to mark the union of Hope Park with Martyrs. Alasdair will represent the Free Church there.

All the rest of you are invited to ZEST, opposite St Mary's on South Street, for a 'Happy Hour' (special deal on tea and coffee!) from 6.00 to 7.00pm. This is not a formal meeting but simply an opportunity for fellowship for all ages. It offers a special opportunity to get to know freshers who are warmly invited to come along.

FRESHERS
We give a warm welcome today to any new students worshipping with us. We hope your time in St Andrews will be a happy and successful one, and we pray especially that you will know the loving presence of Christ in your life during these years.

WELCOME
We welcome Andrew and Kendall Hay into the communicant membership of St Andrews Free Church. We are very grateful to God for their fellowship here and we pray God's continued blessing on them and on Amelie.

The Bible Studies at the Manse, 5 Chambers Place, take place every Thursday at 7.30pm.
